Hows that for an eclectic mix of Marques,
One extreme to the other you might say, but as I love both and have a Ducati as well I like it.

Hi M1ks --------- Ah, that was fun !! A ride out with "the lads" is always good beit virtual and abroad or wherever. Nice Do-car-tee ( as our Trans-Atlantic friends would say). A Bullet with spare power to pull a trailer ?? --- Wow !!----- How's your Steed performing now and what's your opinion of the Mitas tyres ??

The Mitas tyres are performing excellently........ at standing still Alan, :)................

Sadly my steed still has her heart in pieces on the operating table, for several reasons, i've been playing with youtube videos and gadgets for review, the weather has recently turned from lovely to vile, after nearly four weeks of chasing i finally relented and bought my own three legged hone due to the spectacular failure of both the promised units failing to materialise, (I can't complain to be fair, two people promised me they had one I can use, one I can never catch in these days the other seemingly can't find it, just that if i'd known i could have ordered one immediately).
Soooooo........... I have the hone and need to give it a tickle through the barrel, just enough to smooth the way, then set the ring gaps then clean up ye olde piston as best I can and throw it back together, by the time I get there I may have decided to get a new +040 piston anyway but with my wee fellas birthday and xmas fast approaching, (not to mention rear brakes on the car, tax due etc)it's looking more likely the old un.
A quick swipe of 600 grit W&D over the exhaust rocker spindle where that's a bit scored and i'll see how it all goes, I have ultimate faith that it will have excellent compression, fire on the first kick and run as sweet as a very sweet pudding with double cream. Then it'll be test runs ( on the odd dry day to avoid caking in road salt which is already being laid down), and setting the carb to run a smidge richer than before.
As soon as I know how the tyres hold up I shall be posting on here.

Hi matey !!-------- well, if it helps any my No2. Bullet now needs a "crankshaft-out" job, all because of a bit of smoke from the exhaust on the overrun. That has to be inlet valve guide, yes ? So off with the head for a week-end's "quickie" job---and whilst that's off let's take the barrel off to check all is well with the piston, and ------ OH DEAR !! Why is it able to ROTATE a bit ?? -------- because a previous owner has fitted a bronze bush in the small end and it's worn loose and gone oval and there's no more thickness left around the hole in the rod.... BUMMER !! The rest of the bike's OK and still has a valid MoT until next Summer. I've put a set of new Mitas on this one as well but like yourself won't know for certain until the New year. Putting salt down ??? Already ???--- finally, just be careful with that hone, especially a new one. Please have a look at this}--- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honing_(metalworking) --------- Personally (& professionally) I only use a hone as the finishing phase of a re-bore...Notice the reference to the "Plateau finish" and how the "Flexi-Hone" can achieve this....I mentioned this on another thread..... Do you have accurate measuring equipment to hand ?? Remember to give the barrel an absolute THOROUGH wash and clean as those grains are little SWINES and WILL get into the engine given half a chance.

Thanks will have a read through that. Yes, salting already, I was not amused, normally mid Nov before this happens and I hate riding on wet roads when they're salted, it coats everything and before you know it the whole machines furry.
On the way from work about 2 days ago and the gritter passed me going the opposite direction and gave the side of the car a good pebbledashing, (gits).
Re the hone, it should literally need a couple of quick swipes, just a few seconds to get things smooth once i've cleaned the smidge of melted piston off the back wall of the bore. No measuring equipment, (you did send the link to the telescopic gauges though, thanks), so i'll play this by ear, if things are too slappy and noisy next step will be a shop rebore to +0.060 and new piston. (or maybe one of those reasonably priced barrel and piston sets from India given there won't be much good riding weather at the moment........Did you use H-02 both ends or H-01 front as i have BTW?.....

Right, looking at that You mean the Flex hone with the dingleberries, the one I bought is a generic three legged flexi type.

Hi matey !! ----- I remember we had a recent thread re}--Hones etc. I was just trying to emphasise the point that whichever type of hone you choose it is actually a metal REMOVAL process,( agreed it's microscopic), hence the reference to it's use to bring a re-bore up to final size AND finish. If you have a "GLAZED" bore again YES you can use the hone to improve the finish BUT do keep an eye on the bore size as well....It might help your "learning-curve" if you practice on an old barrel (or similar item) first, plus it will take that initial "newness" off the 3 stones. Re.}--tyres, I went for 3.25 x 19 front ( with the wavy tread pattern ), and 3.50 x 19 on the rear ( with that unique lozenge-shaped centre pattern tread.)......Those Barrel & piston sets seem ok. Has anyone tried them at all??-------- It's the STAFFORD SHOW next week-end !! -- I wonder what I'll see that suddenly says "You need me, Alan" ???
