Hi guys.
I'm going to view an 300cc Indian imported 1992 Bullet tomorrow.
It's advertised as running but in need of some TLC for a couple of hundred quid.
I have a nice 500 Classic fitted with racks and saddle bags that I use with the Mrs. I'm looking for another project, something to ride alone, a ratty bike proud of it's rust and imperfections stripped down to the bare minium to enjoy the open road alone. The 300 sounds perfect.

I want to ask... What do I need to know about registering it in the UK? I don't think it is registered. (I'm going to be calling the guy in the morning to find out more.)

Does it need a dating certificate or any other documentation?
I'm also concerned about any duties that might need paying.

Advice welcome.
Many thanks.

Hi MATT ---------- I would suggest you get in touch with the Royal Enfield Owners Club who have all the info/contacts you'll need.

Matt, make sure you get as much paperwork relating to the IMPORT as possible. You'll ideally need a document confirming that VAT and any other taxes were paid on landing in the UK, however this was achieved ie, private Import in the back of a car or commercially in a container, whatever. If you don't, you'll have to pay all these duties before you can register it and it can get messy with HMRC who don't like post import applications. The price you pay should reflect this inconvenient fact! Let us know how you get on,
REgards, Mark.

As above. If the bike hasn't got the Customs & Excise Import Duty Certificate, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. I've just checked the reciept for the Duty paid on my Lightning when it was imported. It was £645. This was in 1999. I dread to think what it would be now.

Thanks everyone, although having spoken to him it was mis-advertised. It is a UK export model already registered in the UK.
He had described it as Indian market... but he had just meant that it was made in India and not an old British one.

I'm going to go and see it at 11am.
£300 - Running, all original and described as fair condition for age just TLC needed. He said on the phone that there's no dents but could do with a respray. Perfect for my rat look desires!
He did say some of the rubbers are starting to go but that's to be expected with 20year old indian rubbers.

I'll let you guys know if I buy it.
