Ridden for decades. Do all my own maintenance.
Today.. was the first time I’ve ever used a timing disk!

See what happens when you ride German, Japanese and Italian bikes for years....

And to cap it all, my stator is too small to mark a 40mm hole from the centre

Ahh well.... I marked the 32 degree advance mark on the stator and made note where the TDC mark is on the wiring at 40mm from the centre. Then realised that the 32 degree mark won’t line up with the wiring mark! Unless by pure luck!

I did mark the stator at TDC, but this mark is not 40mm from the centre which surely will give a different reading? Who’s clever at maths to tell me where to put marks if my stator is too small for the 40mm hole suggested by the Hitchcock’s timing instructions?
Do I move the 32 degree hole at 32mm closer to the centre? By how much?

Just thought I’d take another shot with the marks.

It’s probably not the end of the world. The mark I made on the wiring will still line up with the 32 degree mark, just not as physically close, but using a strobe and a ruler, should work.

What an idiot, I’ve said it again! I need to see two marks lining up on the rotor, just need to set the distance and that’s what I’m not sure about.
