...and I'm out! Nearly £4000 buys lots of other bikes
Hmmmmm, what are those?
Top of my list would be an SV650 - £1500 buys a nice one, which would still leave enough to get a decent RC390!

I can’t help thinking the Meteor looks very similar to my 350 iron barrelled Electra. So I have no great need!

And also potentially, a lot of trouble :D

I've done "fast" and I'm still here, some of my mates aren't, so something that is lazy and gets me where I want to go with the minimum of fuss becomes an attractive proposition. I've booked a test ride.

ah sorry I thought you meant brand new bikes. Agreed, I buy all my bikes second hand, have never bought new in 40 years. Just picked up a 600 miles, 8 month old Himmy with a few extras for £3600 and earlier in the year got a Guzzi V9 Bobber with under 200 miles, 4 months old, delivered for £6200, a saving of nearly three grand on list, probably about two grand on actual

600 & 200 miles? They haven't even been run in yet! :D
I see the price of anything and my immediate thought is "What else could I buy for that money?"
In the field of bikes, the closest I ever got to 'new' was a 1 owner, 5000 mile 1500 GoldWing. He took a huge hit for those 5000 miles and I got a bike that (still) is awesome. I've seen them sell recently for as little as £5000 and at that figure there isn't a single bike I'd choose over a Wing.
When I was looking to get rid of my Electra-X (which I probably will next year as I don't trust it) the RC390 was the only mid-size single that I liked and the cost of a Meteor would get an immaculate example.

My best bike bargain was my 1991 CB750 Nighthawk. It had just 800 miles on it but as it was five years old at the time it was almost exactly half the cost of a new one, which you could still buy back then. I've still got it, over 23 years later, although I've still done only 14,000 miles on it in all.

(Yet I've done more than 13,000 miles on my 2004, 350 Bullet Electra in three years)!

Nope they haven't, I've never ran in a new bike, plenty of rebuilt 2 strokes though ; )

The Enfield manual gives good guidance and I've just clicked over 1k on it now so pretty much there although I think it will take a couple of thousand more at least for it to really free up. The Guzzi also made it to 1,000 before being put away for Winter, from previous experience with a V7 that will take a lot longer to loosen up. I've not really gelled with it so may it may not get that far under my ownership, I much prefer the XS650, even if the brakes don't really work :D

To me, the XS650 engine, the most beautiful looking engine ever; a work of art and I think the Bullet engine looks like a real engine.
