Side stand sinking in soft ground or hot tarmac?

You can buy a pad to put under the foot of the stand the problem with this is picking the thing up when your Sat on the bike

That's easily solved by tying a bit of string to the pad, but then you have the tangle next time you go to use it or get anything out of the same pocket as the pad

Here's my answer to the problem

Drill a small hole at one end of the pad and make a recess on both sides of the pad I used 15mm copper pipe heated with blow torch,
Next I used about one and a half meter of three mm bungee cord tie a loop at each end one small just to attatch the cord to the pad the other loop just tie to fit the recesses you have made in the pad

When finished you can wrap the cord round the pad slip the loop over one end to keep it all tidy

You can keep it in your pocket and not get tangled up or you can attach it to your bike

Use it just like you would use a beer can under your side stand but slip the bigger loop over one of your hand grips

If this helps stop one bike from hitting the deck it was worth putting up

You could also just bolt a "foot" made of alloy plate to the bottom of the stand more permanantly.

Although I find the standard bullet sidestand quite reluctant to sink into anything. My only complaint is they are a tad on the short side and threaten to cockle-over towards the stand if the bike has a load of luggage on board.

I made somewhat similar 10/11 years ago soon after I fitted the sidestand.
Drill hole, tie on length of string, loop to put over bar end. It comes out of my tank bag lowered to near the stand , kiccked into place and lower bike on to the puck.
The cable is just to fasten my helmet to the rack/rear wheel.

This is pre drilled, never seen one before or since.
Given to me at an AMA (American Motorcyclist Association) meet in upstate New York

I use a 4” x 4” fence post cap under the sidestand. If you put one under each foot of the centre stand the back wheel can be removed from under the mudguard.

Why not just make a foot plate like this one from a scrap piece of alloy, drill and tap from underneath screw in a couple of M8 bolts and leave the heads proud.
