I thought I'd better introduce myself to the forum. I live in London and have just had to sell my 1998 CB750 as it fails to meet Euro 3 emission standards and would therefore attract a daily charge for riding in central London. I considered the usual suspects, the great and the good of the commuting world...GSX650, CBF600, XJ6 but try as I might they leave me cold and potentially with expensive service bills, 4 cylinders, water-cooled, lots of snappy plastic. Then I looked at the fuel consumption!
Anywho...bet you've all guessed... I bought Roobarb...a 2015 Classic C5 EFI in Tan.
I've covered 100 miles in the last day and two things stand out; 75mpg and miles of smiles!
The bike had 1600 miles on the clock and although not stated in the advert has lots of add ons which I guess are thought to be significant improvements, free flow exhaust, power commander, 19 tooth sprocket and different shocks.
The bike has clearly been well looked after only thing of note was the drive chain tensioned like a bow string.
I find the brakes interesting but adequate and the clutch whilst very light has only coarse adjustment and slightly odd feel.
The idiot lights are too dim to see clearly in daylight and there is a tendency to bog down from low rev throttle opening.
I'll try brighter idiot lamps and inspect the air filter.
Overall...brilliant. What a lovely experience. Non biking people clearly love the looks and sound and its old world charm.
The only thing missing is the smell, doesn't smell like an old bike...unless that is I've got a dose of the virus!
So there it is, very happy. Emma

I know a couple of people who put a few drops of castrol R in their petrol tank, purely for the smell.

Not sure how well it would play with an exhaust sensor in a fuel injected bike though.

Emma - good to hear that you are enjoying the experience.

Probably worth a look at the air filter, might just need cleaning / replacing.

I would steer away from putting a bit of Catrol R in the fuel tank, as R has a tendancy to stick to the back of the inlet valves, I used to do this with a T140 I had many moons ago and it used to make a right mess of the inlet valves, but the smell was gorgeous.

Better alternative is to squirt a few drops of R into the silencer using a syringe - that will leave a nice smell in the air once the bike warms up.

Another alternative is to squirt just a little WD40 onto the cylinder once the engine warms up it will certainly smell like an old bike and uually does for quite a while.

Whatever you do, just enjoy the ride.

I have a 612 Bullet and a Himalyan by the way - great bikes and each one a different character.

It's very easy to make the chain too tight. Be aware that the markings on the wheel adjusters are as much use as a chocolate fireguard . All three of my enfields are two or three notches different between left and right when the wheels are correctly in line using a straight edge. The chain should almost look too slack when its on the centre stand.
