"We are not all computer "geeks", we shouldn't have to learn code just to write a simple posting to a site such as this."

I absolutely agree. Nobody is saying otherwise - that's what they call a "straw man" argument. But surely everybody here would like the occasional paragraph break, no? And possibly even - gasp - the occasional bold or italic?

That's the problem: the board is very easy to use ONLY for plain text WITHOUT paragraphs. Once you want paragraph breaks, or even the tiniest bit of formatting such as bold or italic, then it explodes into HTML complexity.

The software on the US site is much EASIER to use, not harder. For plain text it's exactly the same as this one: you just type on the keyboard. But get this: if you want a paragraph break you simply hit the Return key twice. Just like every other program on your PC.

If you want to get adventurous and put something into bold text, you click the little 'bold' icon at the top. Importantly, if you ignore all those icons nothing bad happens. You just get plain text.

I just don't believe this is beyond the wit of ANY Enfield owner - even ones who struggle with computers. For goodness' sake!

Talking of things outdated (in a round about way...) isn't it interesting that the very definitely outdated word 'parlour' still has a part to play when used in conjunction with the word 'tattoo'?

Apologies, the above adds nothng to the discussion at hand, though it does demonstrate my grasp of paragraphing HTML.

I think the main point here is our hosts sell motorcycle parts and we get a free forum. Yes it's a bit primitive but I don't really see how that upgrading it at apparently great expense would do anything for HItchcocks business. The amount but that is for Hitchcocks to decide. In my experience it is more likely the content of forums that puts one off. Bores, petty bickering and little hitlers is what makes me not return to forums.

Oh, I can't edit my post. How annoying. I've changed my mind. I demand an improved forum.

Probably I'd better go back to riding, fixing and even polishing my bikes? Otherwise a lot of time is being spent on something that would cause Hitchcocks more computer work rather than thinking about parts etc. PS Thanks to Hitchcocks for providing what we have here.

I totally agree with you,but you will always get those who want to differ just for the sake of it. This forum format is a bit of a Dynasore just like the old British RE's.

LEON,I believe you are about the same age as me. and
could well remember a computer- less world of long ago
Sixty five years ago at a primary school in the bush
at Thornlands, south of Brisbane we only had slate ahd
crayon, wooden pen and green ink in a desk's pot trying
to copy cursive lettering! NORM, we have the same Post
Office cutbacks, a dollar a local letter.I think Parker
51 fountainpen ink capsules are still available as the
elite like to flourish a signature with them. Meanwhile
am grateful of Mr H's forum in whatever form since it is
only icing on the cake to their bread and butter parts

Gordon, I still can't work out how I can buy an item in China for $1 with free postage and Aus Post deliver it to my door. Simple business thinking says this doesn't work

Gordon: Yes, I remember doing my copybook writing, slate pencils, learning times tables and filling inkwells from a pint bottle.
Pictures are easy to post on here with Photobucket clicking the HTML menu on the right-hand side., it will turn amber and briefly read Copied. Well, I hope it works this time on my new computer.

If you were intending to post a picture of a charmingly scruffy vintage sidecar outfit, you have succeeded. A.
