I was returning home in sydney aust drizzling rain stopped at vegie stall to buy some spuds, kept my helmet on, as I was starting the bike this english gentry type with wife tweed jacket and pipe and cravet says to me by jove thats an english enfield. I had visor down so in best indian accent said o.h goodness no sir I bring this fine indian motorcycle with me from dehli, got the usual hruump and they walked away to a battered old jag nearly wet myself laughing

They're not always experts. Last year I stopped at a petrol station on my 1999 500 Bullet and a mechanic came up - 'nice bike. 50s? 60s?' I told him it was actually only 17 years old and he just refused to believe me. I explained about Enfield's production being transferred to India etc, but he clearly thought I was a deluded fool. That's fine by me! I also belong to the Morini Riders Club (note - Riders) and we're mercifully free of rivet counters. Nearly all those bikes have had modifications over their long lives and that's all part of their individual history, and they're appreciated as such. Just ride what you choose to and enjoy it.

Scotty, I had the reverse conversation when I lived in London, an elderly Indian gent insisted that my 700cc Meteor Twin was a made in India Bullet. I pointed out the fact it had 2 exhaust pipes (among other things) but he wasn't having it, got quite irate he did!

Hi guys------on the opposite side of the coin as it were, a few years ago I was fuelling No.2 Bullet on a Sunday morning prior to an "Old Brit. Bike" group ride-out when along comes this very dapper-looking gent in a badged blue flannel suit, tie, cuff-links, silver hair--- matching handlebar moustache and piercingly blue eyes-----all the hall-marks of an RAF veteran with wife and family on their way to Sunday worship you might think ?? ...... Out of the corner of my eye I saw him approach "with purpose" in his stride so I prepared myself for the usual questions re}--- age ?, where built ?, what size ? etc....Imagine my surprise when after a polite "Good morning" he said}----" I say, that's one of those Indian chappies, isn't it ?...You can tell by that big bolt in the frame ( Bullet Whisperer take note !!)...... He continued on in a very knowledgeable way and we had a great 5 mins. or so just chinwagging about our mutual love of the marque...Time up---tank filled --- the lads arrived and it was time to go....Never did find out who he was but it gave me an unexpected good start to the day...

Wotcha. My BSA is built to annoy the anoraks. A B33 with disc brakes back and front, and to make matters worse, it's painted in Volvo "Saffron Gold"

Hiya Woolfie !!-------come,come..you're being shyly modest orchid !!--Remember, I know that bike. The first time I encountered it was a few years ago on our way to a Watsonian "Open day" ..There was I on No.2 Bullet at full BHP ( Let's call it 55 MPH ) when this Orange coloured Greased Lightning-mobile with a seriously beardy-bloke at the helm nearly ripped the time/space continuum as it overtook me and vanished into the Summer haze..... What I'm saying guys is that it may look "Unconventional" but it's a right GO-er !!
