So, to sum up, what is all comes down to is:- Royal Enfield motorcycles that are designed and built in India from Indian materials and with Austrian designed engines are actually "British" because A. They look "British". B. Some of the factory workforce are decendants of people that worked there 40 or 50 years ago, and C. Some of the steel joists in the factory were made in Birmingham. I see even the great British Dunlop tyres on mine are made in Japan. All we need now is a "made in England" sticker from China to complete the picture. PS Nick, its actually Glasgow, Scotland. At least a Chicken tikka Masala is British if not English. We're so cosmopolitan us Brits, but alas! at times so illogical too.

Thing is Apparently Lucky Eddie....

I don't care where my ROYAL ENFIELD is made... It's a great bike, commutes really well.... attracts lots of positive attention and that's about that.

LOL, you really are funny Eddie.
We are all right I guess, just depends on your outlook on it. Have to say, I don't fancy your outlook much, very grey ;)

Hi Nick

Same as you I have had my bike for a year now and it is the same as yours. I too have just changed the chain sprockets. I ride mine into work every day and did a 1000 mile bike holiday last summer and plan another in June. I love my little thumper! While these lot all debate where bike come from and if they are British or not shall we go out on our bikes and have some fun?

As I said a little earlier, an interesting debate.......which will run for many years I feel. However returming to Nicks original posting, I am pleased to see that his bike is "a ride it rather than hide it bike". However a new chain and sprockets at 8900 miles! That is frankly terrible. I get at least 20,000 miles from a chain, and much more from sprockets on all of my bikes. If the chain has given up at such a low mileage then I would question the maintenance regime. Indeed how "knackered" was the chain? As for the sprockets, have they really worn out or have you been conned by so called experts who would have you "believe" that you must renew the sprockets evry time you fit a new chain.

Mad mike.

The rear sprocket was visibly f%!*ed, broken teeth, the chain (an Indian original was adjusted to its fullest. I gues 36 miles a day x5 days a week in traffic, engine braking n'll all that takes it's toll. Anyways replaced they are and I invested in an English Renalds chain, its meant to be far better and I've changed my journry, slightly longer but now 20 miles on the M1 (there and back). The new bigger front sprocket (1 tooth) makes a great difference

Such is life!

As Steve Miller almost said, Fly like a....duck!

45,000ks on my rear sprocket now, no real signs of wear, 4th chain, now an "O" ring one, several gearbox sprockets but from playing with sprocket sizes not due to wear.
