I think the only overland route now is via turkey, iran, UAE and Oman and boat it over (or the opposite). Hardly sounds like much fun these days. Earl - a bit harsh having a pop at his accent, he is a decent working northern lad not a professional presenter, a Fred Dibnah for the modern age if you like. My son and his mates (teenagers) think he is great and that is what counts.

That "slum" he visited was quite normal housing for the majority of Indians.
I've seen the REAL slums out there and where Guy was was positively middle class.
The real slums are just corrugated sheeting if you're lucky.

India to Europe is still do-able via Pakistan, Turkey and into Greece. The first difficulty is getting a visa for Iran and getting an Indian registered bike into Pakistan, although I believe you can legally enter with a Nepal registered bike. There are escorted convoys across the riskier areas of Eastern Iran. I would have loved to have made the trip myself a few years ago but its looking less and less likely the older I get.

[I went onto Henry Coles Facebook page the other week and moaned about the same thing, in his programme he commented on the lovely sound of some old bike but we the viewer couldn't hear it as music was dubbed over as the bike passed the camera.]
Henry Cole is a pratt! he is the reason I refuse to watch his greatest motorcycle rides and any other ones he does.

me a friend and my son are having a 'taster' in two weeks. A week in Goa, we are hiring bullets for the week and doing some light touring, to see what its like. Ive met Guy Martin, he really is a nice bloke. If we like it ( Im sure we will), Ill start saving up for a 'blazing saddles' tour next year (hopefully).
