I expect China probably makes more bike sales than RE, Triumph, the Germans, the big Four and the Italian mob combined, but when since when was quantity a guarantee of quality?

Just for the sake of it: records show China produced 15,000,000 bikes in 2017; India produced 20,000,000. If it goes on like that there’ll be no room left for people!

PS – the Hero Corp India [no longer Hero Honda] sold over 7,000,000 bikes in 2017.

Agreed, quantity doesn’t equal quality but any company that goes on making rubbish will fail, witness AMC two-strokes of the 1960s, and … I dare not mention other British makers of the same era – but one produced a bike called the Beagle, another came up with a three-wheeler that titled, another with a little scooter with automatic transmission … and the rest is history.

The price has me interested, then I see the tubed tyres and same old thin paint and dodgy wiring. A CB500 would cost the same, an XSR700 would kick its bum. The Bonneville is now over priced, I loved my 2004 but back then the 790 only cost 1.5 times what an iron barrel Bullet did and was practically twice as fast, double the service interval etc. Enfield have certainly caught up, but I want a less retro more practical version. As an ex member of the Bring My Wallet testers club I won't buy anything in the first years production.

Had a chat with my dealer yesterday and he has no info on when the 650 twin will be available, all he knows is the original RE quote of may 2018, and has had no further info, As to putting down a £100 deposit all you are doing is putting £100 in a dealers pocket for a bike that may or may not turn up, The point is the dealers don't know when these bikes will be available but they will always take your money, So we will wait until we see one of these bikes for sale in the UK before we get excited.

Why anyone would help fund a dealer’s cash flow just to be the first to get an untried product of any sort is beyond me. If the dealer goes t*ts up (and a lot of RE dealers are small independents) you could well kiss bye bye to your deposit if not paid by credit card. Limited edition exotica are one thing el cheapo Indian bikes quite another.

Yes, me too !!---------- I'll go along and have a test ride but I'll keep the purse strings shut untill a year or two have gone by and the first batch are up for grabs.........To be honest I cant think of a reason as to just WHY I would want one ??.........The Bullet '65 is ok for general use, the Honda XBR is my "Weapon of choice" to give the DBD34's a run for their money and my T140 keeps the driveway well lubricated.... (Sigh )..What more could an aging delinquent need ??....apart from dear Mrs. Joyce that is !!
