Sold my 535 GT last week & glad to get shut of it ,the only thing going for it is the "Look"...., nowt else!!!

whilst I had it had a fuel tank leak, a rear shocker leak, but fortunately got these issues sorted out under warranty..café racer ..not on your nelly... café plodder more like

I would rather spend another 3.5K or 4K a get a proper RELIABLE cafe racer..The 900 triumph thruxton is the one to go for, & you can get all the trick bite now from various places ,eg, "Sqaredeals"..."British Customs USA" etc

Get one while you can. I bought mine in April. Four others rang enquiring after it. There are various places in the UK dealing with tuning Triumphs - Triumph Twin Power is probably the best for the twins. They do their own software to upload the maps they have developed, or you can use the free TuneEcu. Either way a lot of missing torque and bhp can be liberated without spending a huge amount. Whilst the CGT can be made into a real flier, it needs hotter cams and cylinder head work, bigger valves etc to make a huge difference. Stock oit only looks like a cafe racer which is fine as long as you know what you're buying. A test ride put me right off.

I had a Suzi GSX1400 rider drooling over the C5 today, as he said though, if he takes it over 80 he has to hang onto the bars (no windshield) and like myself too old and grumpy to lie on the tank caff racer style.

Back in 2007, I bought an XJR1300. Lovely bike but yes at over 70 I had to hang on for grim death! Hence why I came to RE. I did ride a GT Continental but hated it. Very uncomfortable and too vibes. Got a more reasonable quote from another dealer for the service at £110 too. Might do the hitchcocks carb conversion too, just paranoid the efi is going to pack up after the other bits falling off!

Barryefi, the injector system is Keihin, it's not going to pack up. The EFI bottom end is RE's best ever, very strong. The oil pumps are far more powerful too. Have you invested in Loctite? There are a few cures for vibration which shouldn't be loosening teeth by now, see other posts. I've not had anything self-loosen since first service when the dealer's mechanic thoughtfully tightened everything possible with Loctite.

The Suzi rider though I had just cleaned it, not. I use car detailing stuff when I clean it (not often) and carnauba car wax to protect the paint. With the paint hard-waxed, muck just wipes off, no blotches. Rim Wax on chrome and aluminium seems to have cured and reversed rusting on spoke nipples and elsewhere. General appearance is shiny with added mud splatter and a few interesting stone chips.

Bought Thruxton, now fitted a BC tuning kit, which included re-map, Air box removal kit & SAI removed, K&N Filters fitted, Preditor pipes, removed rear mudguard, fitted tail tidy, + other bits...It goes like stink now, huge improvement on stock tune...I have looked at the ECU triumph tuning mods here >> http://www.triumphtwinpower.com/thruxton-efi-tunes.php,.. but to be honest you don't need it, you only need to do what I have done & I guarantee you will Grin from ear to ear........glad to see the back of the 535GT

Back in the day Benelli used to make decent motorcycles.

Like greaser, I too couldn't wait to see the back of my 535GT although I have to say I've remained within the RE fold and bought a B5. Some backstory to the Crocka Crap Continental; it was launched with great razzmatazz as the all new Royal Enfield for the C21st and a rideout from the Ace Cafe to Brighton in October 2013, a nostalgic nod to the cafe racer days of the original 1964 Continental GT250. The first view reports from the 43 journos taking part noted that some of the bikes vibrated very badly some didn't - the result of inconsistent manufacture and even worse QC at Oragadam. Unfortunately two and half years later these problems persist and as a consequence a lot of the stock sitting in the dealers' showrooms is not new at all. My 'brand new' Conti registered in April this year was actually built in December 2014 and came with a Kph speedo without mph markings (not a lot of use for British roads) and it vibrated so badly the mirrors were unusable around 50-60 mph. The high numbers of unsold old models lying around goes some way to explain the pricing history since the launch when the Conti went out at £5,200. In 2015 it was cut to £4,999, then early this year it came down another £500 and some dealers are now offering it at £4,200 (or less if you haggle). In other words rumours about the patchy quality, flogging off NOS as the latest model and the reluctance of the Importers to uphold reasonable warranty claims has got into the public domain and sales are not meeting targets. So whats it like? Well, its got looks-to-die-for, brilliant handling courtesy of a Harris designed frame, super steering and braking and some nice bought-in bits like the rearset assy and the braided lines but this is all offset by poor quality, patchy assembly, soft paint finish, the crappiest chroming you can find this side of Shanghai and such a feeble power plant that its no faster than a C5. Its a lemon and mine has left a bitter taste.
