UPDATE !!----- My good BSA-owning friend Myles ( He of the WD B40 with trailer ) donated a pair of surplus clutch plates from his 650 Lightning yesterday so I fabricated a clutch locking plate, and to-day the various spares ordered arrived along with the clutch puller, so I was able to make some progress......I can now tell you that the gears fitted are}--- ENG. = 29, CLUTCH BASKET = 57, GEARBOX SPROCKET = 18, REAR WHEEL = 45.................................. Standard ratios are : primary 29/58T, final drive 20/47T - you may find it's a bit undergeared, or not.........

Hello JOHN------ yes, you're quite right re}--- Clutch basket teeth = 58 ( I've just re-counted and checked in the manual)..........I'd seen a "57 4642" cast in and simultaneously missed one tooth when last counting so it appeared to "agree" with my expectations.....The 45t rear sprocket is shown as an "optional" by Triumph......So on my bike the amended figures are now}--- crank = 29, clutch = 58, Gearbox = 18, Rear = 45.............. If I change the Gearbox back to its' std. at 20t and run it like that I think it'll give a decent overall cruising set-up with possible options later by varying the rear sprocket...........

Hi guys------------- well to-day proved to be FUN ( NOT !!)------------- the new 20t sprocket was BIGGER than the hole in the chaincase that the 18t came through !..........Thus the engine was built with an 18t fitted rather than the 20t as claimed in the Workshop Manuals etc................So, after chatting on various forums I had to be brave and file the vee-clearance gaps for the top of the teeth.................Sprocket is now fitted and seems OK ! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Image-------------------------------------------------------------------- Image

Hi Alan, watching with interest, its coming along..

Guess its just like the enfield rotor/stators, that is aslong as there is a gap at the tightest spot then thats good enough..

Otherwise you have to start filing out the holes in the stator to realign and centralise... What a faff that is..

Just be sure that shaft is concentric under power.. Did you try the dti on it??

Hi GWILLI---------- yes, alls well on the crankshaft......I'm not happy with the off-set between rotor and stator so Myles and I have re-designed the rotor support such that a transitional-fitting shaft is engaged within the whole length of the rotor's hole......More f&g later !
