Since my last missive on the subject of WS I see that their wbsite home page has been rewritten to say they have given up the Royal Enfield distribution business after 14 years. It also says that they have lots of spares and accesories etc.

As a new 2004 Bullet owner - 500cc - I am delighted but frustrated. Delighted at the ripping torque and noise from the open pipe, the light and perfect handlding, the ease of riding and the pleasure overall. Frustrated at the shit gearbox cum clutch but then I remind myself it is essentially 50 years old. Delighted that I have not seen another one in Glasgow and I use mine daily. Delighted that old farts stop and talk. Frustrated it does not attract young women. Happy I have sold my Hinckville bonnie, of which I have had three to indulge in this ridiculous vintage machinery which will shortly take me on a 1500 mile tour north. It sits happily in the garage next to the Venom Clubman. Frankly, who gives a toss about what it could be or should be, it is what it is and I like it. I can also say, I am not in the slightest bit interested in the efi ones.

Alan,
Enfields aren't that bad, you want to try working on Chjang Jiangs for a while, you can learn to appreciate Enfields

Yes, Sophiaspin, I have just come back from somewhere where I was watching an old geezer minutely examining my bike and photographing it with his phone. Now sometimes I would do the whole "1989, still build them in India, disc brake, electronic ignition, Amal, Mikarb" bit, and sometimes I'm just not in the mood.

BTW how do you get your hands on a Chang Jiang? I have sometimes though of running a combo as a sort of beach buggy for a summer.

Norm is right. Those Chinese flat twin BMW copies are fun but flawed - from what I've heard. The EFI Enfields are are much more viable product out of the crate.

Sorry NORM---- I think you've got the wrong end of my stick there---- I'm sure you're aware that I currently have two Classic 500's ?? --- and ran a Bullet 65 only a few years back ??... I was only agreeing with SOFIASPIN for liking the Iron Barrel and for taking a light-hearted poke at the EFi...I test-rode one recently at the Shropshire dealers in WEM, ( Didn't like it though !!)......getting back on track though, just WHO WILL take on the imports now then ?????
