Wise words again stinkwheel. It will be tucked away in the shed and I will approach the job at some point in the future. I have had too many bikes go in the past that I have regretted selling but I think the bullet is worth keeping hold of for future pleasure. I will indeed do my morocco trip in october and it will be in the company of my mate on his enfield 650 twin (although it is currently a month or so late from delivery date).

Hi,
I didn't keep a cost tally and it's a few years ago, but the actual bearings would beat about £70 the lot including plain bush big end(nothing noticeably wrong, but sensible to do at the same time). You could fit the roller big end, which is much dearer.
When the bearings went, crank play trashed my alternator stator. I replaced the rotor too- £150?
I also did the oil pump spindle and worm drive, and changed the oil filter.
Maybe about £280 worth of parts?

The other main expense would be getting a local mechanic to true up the crank; you can.t really do this without a lathe and the skill to use it. But not much- Millard's of St Peter Port Guernsey(Not much help to you now).

Well worth it in my view. I like the feeling that I really know how the bike works, and as i said, it went like a scalded cat from when I finished the assembly. It gave me the confidence to strip the gearbox when the bearings went on that a couple of years later.
