Anyone found a link to some dyno graphs for this engine yet ? All I've found so far is typical non facts, hyperbole, hype and opinion.

My thoughts exactly KC1961. No doubt the T120 series are great bikes (if you want a 1200cc twin) and whilst objectively they are superior in every way to the older air/oil cooled bikes I don’t want or need rider modes, liquid cooling, ride-by-wire etc. I want to be able to tune and service my bikes myself. As for the weedy 900cc l/c twins...In one respect both l/c 900 and 1200cc Triumphs are retrograde: they are only SOHC. Triumph twins have always been twin cam. I haven’t seen anything on the actual rear wheel torque/bhp of the RE twins yet (nor for that matter any pictures of the actual production models - those at the NEC weren’t production-ready). Soon there will be riding impressions or full tests in all the monthly mags.

Not sure I would worry about what the magazines think. They will mention the lack of power, the lack of rider modes and the usual article full of cliches about the enfield story, the reliability issues yada yada. For me I will wait for feedback from owners on this forum and the USA one and make my choice between the twin and the Himalayan. The Himalayan incidentally seems to have some very happy owners now the quality control has been sorted.

I saw them "in the flesh" for the first time this morning (Scottish bike show), very nice. Visually, I prefer the Interceptor to anything that Triumph are making.

They do look a bit more period (radiator aside) seriously thinking of swapping out my B5 for one even if it’s not suitable for my other half whose thoughts on getting another bike change as frequently as the wind. With those mudguards it should make a nice winter hack., so no more salty roads for the 1200 :)

Decaptitating pistons? some folks on this site seem to be fascinated by this subject that only happened to a small batch of 500 Bullets back in the 90's I don't recall a piston falling apart on any Bullet / Electra / EFI / GT / Himalayan for ages... why dont we drag up the Ford Pinto issue to Ford? water under the bridge gents...Royal Enfield sold in excess of 800,000 bikes last year World wide. I have an Interceptor on order and if its as good as my Himalayan and GT cannot wait to take delivery.

To give context to Wayne’s numbers. Royal Enfield sales 820,000; Triumph about 63,000; BMW about 164.000; Honda 17,000,000!

Very impressive figures gents, but that is only ever half the story--isn't it ??........Now in order to get the full picture we also need to see the Warranty work return figures and then balance them as a cost against those sales.......ie}-- They'll be diluting the profit margin...
Hi Wayne---- In part-quoting me you forgot to mention the valve head drops..(One was actually shown as it happened via you-tube and posted on this forum within the last 9 months) and then there are those primary chain rollers that decided to take a "Walk on the Wild side"... This was posted on here within just the last MONTH !! ....You know very well what I'm getting at and it's the same old story time and time again, isn't it ??}----It's Enfield ( India)'s bogie man---QUALITY CONTROL, or the apparent lack of it.........While we are dragging up the past let's re-visit the Honda GC125 saga...........Remember how the Brazilian made ones were falling far behind in quality to the home market ones ?---- Snapped down tubes comes to mind in particular.....Honda H/Q put a hit team together and packed them off to the Brazil factory ( and the lesser Turkish one as well) with orders to "Kick bottoms" until the problems were eventually sorted out...........which they were.
It might have only been "A small batch" whose pistons lost their head but each individual event happened in Real Time, to a Real person who had spent Real ££££ or Real $$$$ on an Enfield product only to have it fall apart in service......From my time as an RN Marine Engineer comes the American expression}---"Shape up or Ship out" !! and from world of Business in general we have}---- Caveat Emptor !!....

If we’re old enough – and most of us are! – then we’ll remember the stories of engine failures on all manner of early Hondas – the CB92; C72; CB160; CB450; CX500 etc etc. Not to mention the recalls on bikes and cars by the ‘world’s best’ manufactures – you can supply the names. Incidentally, there is a web-site listing the many factory recalls on various recent Triumph models. Nothing is perfect – but Royal Enfield at least is making every effort to get it right – and they will! Probably the Interceptor 650 will be one product to show the benefits of the huge investment Jamsey’s link highlights. Cheer up guys!!
