that depends, Tornado is running a scheduled service on the settle - carlise right now, but it ain't british rail no more.



P.S> BR sold the vale of ragdoll in 1989 and it is still running as a steam railway today, YAY!

Hi Papasmurf, was on a run behind Tornado to minehead on one of our trips back home great loco, been on the devils bride one also and one out of aviemore, one down Devon way that had dining car and food blast from the past.worked in stirling middle signal box 98 lever frame largest one in scotland, had 4 years of steam and left to come to aust before the smelly diesels took over.long live the steam engine.

I did say a regular service Scaly, as in permanently powered by steam. Nobody's got it yet.

Actually I've been less than accurate I find. This service was not operated by BR as I thought it was, but was part of the system in that you could purchase a ticket from BR which included this service as part of your journey.

perhaps we're missing the point, British Rail also operated FERRY services, should we be thinking more nautically? BR also had steam cranes for engineering and breakdown trains long after they finished with steam locomotives.

one of the Darjeeling 0-4-0s has been re-imported into the UK and does the rounds of the 1' 11⅝" narrow gauge railways.
