Hi I have a new 2016 b5 bloody hopeless 2100klm on clock will struggle ot hit 105klm on flat any hills back into 4th. My 1993 iron 535 will run out to 140 bigger carb tend to think uce has lighter flywheels so much for a increase in hp no wonder people go to carby conversion, also noticed a lot of new bikes have a bad kink in the fuel hose hacking a little from hose cures problem.

That does sound bad Scotty, 105kph is only about 65mph. My 2009 Electra will hit 75 - 80mph on the flat and chug up hills in 5th gear quite happily, in fact once out of town I seldom change down at all. I'm no lightweight either, 16 stone (or 100 kilos if you prefer) and the bike is fitted with bars with a 6" rise so I'm sat bolt upright too. The only mod is a change of silencer, I doubt that would have made much difference to performance? My old 350 I had back in the 90s would hit 65mph, I'm not surprised you're unimpressed, I think there has to be something wrong with it though, it doesn't sound typical to me. Any body else's the same?

My advice to rustygman would still be the same though, testride, always try before you buy. Even if it's a really good bike you're considering, you may just simply not gell with it.

Had a look at my 2016 b5 today nothing amiss til I opened the airfilter houseing water in case took plastic cover off filter element wet rode 400 klm in heavy rain but on looking at the air intake on back of case rubber inlet faces towards the front, methinks you could get a bit of water into inlet with a damp element would that make bike run rich or would the ecu compensate for restricted airflow.anybody with a uce could they have a look to see which way the air I let is positioned, thanks.

I take some offence at being called a short-arse by Scaly, but as he will know, short-arses were less likely to be taken out by a sniper. As it 'appens, I understand completely his point about getting something right, then not selling, regardless. My iron barrel has done me 5000 miles this year, including a round trip to IOM classic TT. I am not happy with my poor mans Gold Star, which I built - namely my rapid and rorty Electra X 2008 which is the fastest 500cc bike I have had. Been looking at Continental GTs' and I think that might be my next step, and to let last of the breed leanburn carbie Electra go despite spending £5k on it - but a lot of us do that - and anyway, no pockets in shrouds.

Thanks for all the comments - helpful as always. In light of comments on this thread (and the USA forum) I think for now I will keep my iron barrel. There is another thread on here regarding efi fuel pump issues and the potential cost involved when things go wrong and things like that just put me off. I think I will stick with the wonderful simplicity of my iron barrel for now and keep the money I don't spend on my next continental trip.
