Yes it is the Connie in the painting.
I love misteries too but in this case I'd prefer to get it solved :-)
DVLA could solve this in no time for 5 pounds only, it's really a pity you cannot use this v888 form when living on the continent.

You could be correct Gwilly,

if you can have an ABC 123 A, for one area, could they also have had a ABC 123 B in a different area? I have no idea if you can have the same letter and number for different year suffixes, and if so, wether they might have gone to different areas for different years?

SO, would it be possible to fill in a V888 for this guy and forward it from a UK address? It that possible? Trouble is, if the bike is exported, there is no current UK registered keeper. Maybe quoting 'historical vehicle' might work. It would be unusual for the DeVious LA to turn down the chance of some money!

There again, if they have an email address, it might help just to explain, and see what the reply is.

I did find this, which might just be a winner...

LKE 274B is not a valid original issue registration number. It appears to be an age-related plate issued by DVLA (in 1999 one presumes). If so, DVLA will may not have any info pre-1999.

Cleggy this may explain why it has a Kent Coucil reg. number.
My bike has been road tested by Classic Bike Guide in May 1998 and one picture clearly shows its number plate.
At this time it was offered for sale by Clarcke's Classics, a motorcycle dealer in Dartford... Kent!
Mr. Clarcke has no records going back to 98/99 and can't help any further.

Aye Julien, it would explain the Kent area reg & the "B" plate. DVLA used to issue age related plates relative to the area in which the applicant was resident at the time, but this practice was discontinued about 3 years ago. It would appear the applicant or DVLA got the year wrong too. The original reg would have been 3 figures & 3 numbers only (or vice-versa). I shall look up Altrincham for mid 1960 & see what it might have been. TTFN Jack
