The weather here in Denmark is notoriously unpredictable and we don't put much faith in weather forecasts... Thumper is hibernating now and I won't be disturbing him until spring. He's quite happy under his blankets.

I don't consider mine tone run in yet at 900+ miles. I gather they loosen up fully at around 2,000 miles. After that I guess they're running out.....
I do wish people wouldn't present opinion, to which we're all entitled, as fact.

[center]Tornado is having time off with some other bikes for company until I come back about Feb. Managed a couple of days riding last week, and don't have too much problem with wind as both my RE's are all metal and quite heavy unlike a plastic trailly. When was the last time you saw a safe being blown up the road? LOL!

I was hoping to be taking Kevin out as I arrived in France this evening, but even whilst I was on the TGV, my phone rang and I was told that I would be picked up and taken straight to Switzerland, no stops! , I will have to wait for about a week before seeing Kevin again. Sorry, won't be able to get the info about Kevin's tyres until then.

Luckily, I brought my Swiss army 'Picasso' camo jacket with me!

the dealer said to bring her in for the first service at 500 miles. He also said that I could fit an aftermarket exhaust without a power commander and it wouldn't bother the warranty.

his running in advice was don't let it labour, very the revs etc, no more than 50mph UNLESS you were going down a good hill then you could open it up for the duration of the hill.

when it was brand new the vibrations were noticeable.. now less so even at 360 miles

re - running in, the numbers I quoted were from the RE book of words that came with the bike, "if all else fails, read the manual". Everyone is entitled to an opinion and can run their bike any way they choose, I strongly support that notion even when it's not the same as mine.

RE use kilometres, 1000km is approx 600 miles. Me, I reckon I can feel what the engine is doing, my C5 noticeably loosened up during a short period around 400-500 miles. From maybe 700 miles to present 1000+ miles no significant change. An engine will continue to loosen up throughout its life, that is normal wear.

pd110961 - I'll not say your dealer is wrong but they may have confused kilometres with miles. Running-in is bedding-in the various components, bearings, meshing gears and chains. The UCE does have roller bearings rather than white metal shells so they need less work but the chains do stretch initially. The primary has a self-tensioner (hydraulic?) but the drive chain will need the wheel pulling back before long, after that it stops stretching. The cam back-lash should be done at first service too, another item that beds in.

If the motor feels like you should change down then do so, or go a little faster, just don't open it up and blast it.

hi, pd110961 actually the opposite for me, ice and snow only on a bike, theory and in practice, your'll do far more damage in an out of control car. I ride all through the winter snows and treat it as a trial, the roads are usually deserted as cars cant get traction. On country roads its fun to pass abandoned cars and bikes. secret dont use brakes all on the throttle. Personal view and not for everyone. Vince.
