Vin,(if your still around)look at the frame design over the gearbox. Look at the bracing tubes that meet with the seat tube of early 50's English Enfields and look at Indian ones. The two curved bracing tubes are a dead giveaway as to it being Redditch (U frame), where as the straight bolt through design show its of Indian manufacture (T frame). Apparently the 'in house' Indian (T) frames started around 62.

I ve come to the conclusion that this bike is one of the first indian builds the frame is similar to an early fifties bullet but is slightly different with the plating to take the swing arm .it looks to have a mix of indian and British parts probably overspill of Brit bits mixed up with indian early production should make a good talking point at this years national rally.

The last complete English CKD bullet was shipped in June 1956. The Indians started making their own frame in 1957 with a simplified version of the 1951 350 Bullet frame. All welded construction, no forged lugs, and with gussets welded into the steering head, which was made from tube. Then in 1962 the frame was further modified to the example that most will be familiar with.
From 1957 on all Indian Bullets used a local made frame and sundry tin ware. All the CKD 'bikes' supplied post 1957 were basically just an eng/gearbox/forks and sundry loose parts like hubs, spokes, brakes for local assembly, last CKD was shipped out in 1964
Last English suppler crankcase was supplied to India in 1965. Last English supplied part for the Indian Bullet was the conrod; in 1975.
David Blasco has a 'Changes time-line' on his Blog listing all the major changes and how to ID the variation of the Indian Bullet

I last heard that term years ago. Did you have a Tri-ang railway by any chance?
