What we have established is that the frame number is probably from 1965, what we are not sure of is if all the 1965 ones have the same frame number lol

So what's the verdict? These bikes are obviously mainly or wholly modern, but how are age related numbers obtained? Do the Indians supply original 60's log books as evidence of age, grind down the modern frame number and re stamp the old one on? If the VMCC are issue dating letters, what are they using to date the frame?

I know the Lambretta Club of GB will issue a dating letter just on a pencil frame rubbing and don't take into account the cycle parts. There seems to be some disparity as to what determines the age of the vehicle. The DVLA have a points system, the engine doesn't count for much, it's mainly the frame, forks, wheels and hubs if I remember rightly. Clearly, who ever issues the dating letters isn't taking into account the whole bike.

Good job my 1953 framed bike already had a V5 when I built it, it's a right hodge podge of 'Enfield' bits :-)

Hi guys----------OK, so which is the worst offender of these two Enfield Bullets}-------a) A genuine 1965 stamped frame that's totally fitted-out with an "Iron" engine, modern running gear etc........or b) A modern frame that's re-stamped as a 1965 manufacture and totally fitted out with all genuine 1965 engine, running gear etc........ ??...Obviously b) is the "offender" as re-stamping is illegal, but isn't a) what those Indian chaps in the video are doing ??............................. I other words I could just re-frame my current 2005 Classic 500 with a genuine 1965 frame and hey-presto !! an instant tax-exempt classic ??

Alan, so your saying my 1953 framed bike is 'illegal' because it has a later Indian engine and cycle parts?
