I've seen a similar front mudguard stay on a couple of Panthers, on those it was to hold the front wheel off the ground while fixing punctures. One of my mates has one with it on and the standard rear wheel stand plus side stand. Cracking pictures, keep them coming.

Yes front wheel stand, a brilliant idea which I only discovered having left my girl friend (now wife of 25 years) sitting on the seat of my AJS M16S whilst I hitched into Bury St Edmonds to find a tyre shop. Took a couple of hours. She was disgruntled on my return as it took a couple of hours and she was already a bit saddle sore as we'd ridden from London. I told if she got off the bike would fall off the stand and she had to suck it up for the cause. I never told her about the front wheel stand when it was revealed to me a short while later.

Great pics and thanks for sharing. Dads are important and it is good to see things like this. Mine flew the first jets in the RAF and last year we visited Montrose air museum where they have a meteor on display, which happened to be the one he racked up hundreds of hours on out of Turnhouse, Edinburgh. He is still here, clinging on! Time to get a BSA B31 rigid!

Sorry for the late reply Pete but I am on my travels and just arrived in the south of France for a few weeks and got internet use again.

I see what you mean about the shadow which makes me feel a bit foolish, I agree with you of course but at the lower end of the front engine mount is some sort of modified bracketry which is the cause of my foolishness. Doh.
