Hi , Paul thats good to know. One question well two actually. Is there any tell tale signs of the pump worm etc showing sings of wear and what is it like to replace
Cheers Dave

Davie have a read of this in Mr H's technical notes…

http://www.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/pi ... pindle.pdf

Norm i reckon the floating bush is adequate for most normal use and given a good supply of fresh oil will last for many thousands of miles..

BW has hit the nail when he mentioned the pump spindle and worm.. This i'm sure is the achilles heel of the old classic motor..

I don't need to tell you that with the failure of the spindle, the big end goes west in short order…

Why does the spindle/worm fail?? Poor Metallurgy maybe, Gunning the engine from cold without letting the oil warm, that will put great strain on the pumps… Some people will fook about with carb and timing until they get massive kickbacks on starting…

Probably the best way to strip a spindle or indeed reconfigure a sprag clutch…

Gwilly, no floating bush in an Electra they came out standard with a severe lack of hardening on the roller big end in typical Indian style

Davie seems i have slid into talking about the previous model big end..

In short talking out my arse again… Of course the X has a different design bearing which of course may still be ok if looked after..

If not i suppose can be replaced at a fairly reasonable cost as advertised below by Mr H…
