I sort of agree with sofiaspin here. I did very long test rides on the w650 and bonnie a couple of years back. The w650 is excellent, no doubt about it but it was what a would describe as a "ford cortina". While doing everything well enough it was just a bit bland and did nothing especially well - a bit monochrome. The bonnie was a lot more "passionate",a bit more lotus cortina with a lot more get up and go. But still so underwhelming compared to a real Bonneville that I went and bought a bullet (a real one, not a UCE!)until something better came along, and sure enough it did - a '63 Tiger 90. Now I'm looking for a decent pre E/S Commando and a Desmo single.

Lucky Eddie a T90 is a great bike - my first brit was a 65 T90 and I travelled many happy miles on that bike, touring and the rest. It was replaced by a 59 6t which was brilliant. I agree entirely with your sentiment regarding a UCE machine but needed something more modern having moved away from Hinckley as they are too heavy for me. I bought a Woodsman because I wanted less grief with points and coils and shorts and that blasted classic gearbox. I think mine is the last 'new' woodsman prior to Watsonian moving on but it looks great and looking forward to getting my leg over and going to Europe on it.

Sofiaspin. I had dedcided not to bother adding to this post but your comment "I still hold true to the view that Hinckley bonnies are a much better bike than a W650 at all levels, which is the opinion asked for by the OP." which is bugging me. Please read his post again, he's not asking for any comparison between bikes, but does anyone have knowledge of turning a w650 into a trials.................................................................
