In fairness, a CG125 probably does everything a bullet does and does it better.

Frankly now my new Honda C125 Super Cub is run in the performance is better than the Royal Enfield Electra X I gave away before I was seriously tempted to set fire to it.

But would it carry me, my wife pillion and baggage through 11 US States including the Appalachians (Blue Ridge Mountains etc) on a six week trip?
Thought not



Having said that, there may well be a time (in the not too distant future) when age and infirmity dictate a lighter bike with an electric leg

That is not what my motorcycle is for. I use the BMW K75S and sidecar for long trips and neither I nor my wife carry pillion passengers, she has her own Suzuki Intruder for long distance trips.

Just to re address the balance, I once had someone on a 600 ish jap four run out of road and stop in the grass while trying to get away from me as I closed in on them on an RE 500. Mind you, it was a full blown Redditch Fury scrambler, so it had a bit of an edge on many others! Take care.

Thanks Paul. I’ve had the same. For me to be held up by a sports bike when on the Classic 500 in standard trim…..

Very frustrating when travelling at about 45 in a 60 when on the 350. It just took too long to overtake.

I think mainly I wasn’t brought up on British, but Japanese. I’ve always felt the ‘Jap crap’ comments were wrong. I know a lot of them are just tongue in cheek. If after market suppliers produced as many parts for Japanese models as there were specialists for British bikes, the whole balance may change. The Japanese produced so many models, maybe that was one of the faults

You should have seen how I felt last week after a spirited ride on the CX when I then checked and discovered the tyres manufacture date was 2005 and 2006….. I felt sick. I fitted a new rear on Wednesday, new front has arrived, but the weather was too bad to fit today.

The same happened on our CX 500 Custom and sidecar, the rear tyre (500x16) need changing about avert 8000 miles.
But the front tyre which is actually a rear tyre, had plenty of tread on it after more than a decade.

I recall that the weak point on the CX engine is the cam chain. You probably know this already.

It’s a shame you can’t keep both bikes, though. My “proper” bike is also a Honda, but mine is a CB750, which I’ve owned since 1997. I hardly ever ride it these days and have recently thought about selling it.

That was cured a very long time ago. (1982) (Surprised the mud has stuck for this long.)
