For £3000 you should be able to find a low mileage EFI that suits you. My only "tips" are to study the advice about smooth gear shifting - slow deliberate movement of your foot to ensure it's in gear rather than flicking it and assuming it will engage. And check the tightness of the fuel hose jubilee clip. Mine had loosened after 2500 miles and a lot of petrol was escaping - only noticed by a friend I was chatting to before pulling away. But that's the only problem I've had. The RE is a delight to own and ride.

Fox, I agree with Fido. With your budget you will be able to find an EFI model.
Ha ing owned a both a Sixty- 5 (iron engine) and Electra XS (AVL) engine I can say that the EFI would be an excellent first bike with all the character and sound of the earlier models with first class reliability.
If you have a local dealer I'm sure that they will be happy to show you around one.
Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Do it Foz. I've had jap bikes and they were good. But nothing has made me smile more than my 2007 Electra x.
Still has the carbs on etc but with a 'slightly' more reliable engine(AVL)and the gear shift is where a 'young un' can find it. I've done all my own maintanence with no mechanical knowledge to start with and i've enjoyed that as much as riding it and learned a lot in the process. Thought i'd be bored with it after 6 months to be honest. But there's no way i'd part with it now. Just remember the Enfield needs TLC - not just 'lock it in the garage'.

As with any bike, get a test ride first. - It will feel very different to what you learnt on, especially if you get one with a R/H gear change and drum brakes!

Hi FOZ---well, now I know more about you than during my first post I can now re-iterate that second part and suggest one of the more modern EFi / UCE bikes. I thought "FOZ" might have been a teenager wanting to "Do the retro thing----". So at least you have some roadcraft experience under your belt. That would have been a nightmare scenario }--- trying to learn to ride a bike AND learn your roadcraft all at the same time !!! That's just MHO as mentioned before. Whatever you buy, remember to take a knowledgeable friend along with you, ensure the V5c is genuine etc, etc. I'm sure you already know this ??? ---------------welcome aboard, fellow Bulleteer---- and "have a nice day"-----we do !!

@Fido. Good point about the fuel tube jubilee clip. Mine at the injector end was quite loose, but hard to see. Had a few wiffs of petrol fumes, which I think I found not too soon.
Otherwise, EFI nice machine for cruising around 80 to 90 km/hour. TrevorCH
