another thought some one mentioned machine mart ,i bought a 9 inch clarke grinder from there used it twice 2nd time two years after first use before we get to warranty,the drive gearing sheard so morale to story is if you want good gear buy makita or bosch,although if buying bosch avoid the diy range its green ,the professional gear is blue,all the best paul.

I wouldn't go near it.


The motor will be underpowered and the wheels will be crap.


A couple of good wheels should cost more than £20.


I'd look at Machine Mart or Axminster

Thanks lads - that's why I posted the question on here, and the comments have proved very useful once again.


I'm quite impulsive by nature and if I would have had my van with me, I would have bought it... luckily I only had a small rucksack and my Bullet so I couldn't have carried it... what with the pork for the roast and the cheapo Baileys.. Thanks again!

Hello again Peter 53 -------------- Yes, Joyce and I indulge in the cheapo Baileys every Christmas. Apparently the day after is called Boxing Day but so far we've missed it having indulged in a bottle each and slid peacefully off into oblivion. Did your pork still have it's 4 trotters attatched ??  Not everything from Lidls is bad---most of their tinned food is now in ring-pull tins for example. Have a nice day

Alan - unfortunately the posk was legless... as was I after finishing the sweet Irish Cream-type thing, and then a bottle of Westons cider as a night cap. However, I was very lucky to be given a special birthday present from my good lady last year - an afternoon at a bespoke butchers near us in the smoke called William Rose. The best part of this masterclass was sawing a pigs head off. You couldn't make it up!

Back to bench grinders. 


B&Q do a bench grinder which costs £20 here in Guernsey beyond the reach of the VAT man. But only 150 watts; uselesser still.


There is no Lidl, Aldi or Netto and i don't like Bailey's.

Hello Peter 53---- have just been on their web site. Was that the Carnivore Class you went on ?? What a fantastic shop and family business---a real breath of fresh-air in these days of Sainsbury mass produced meats etc. I'll try and fit a visit in next time I'm "in town". As the others say, how hard are you going to work it?


I`ve got a forty-year-old one, still with the original stones, and no noticable wear; only used for grinding the rivets off new chains to get the correct length, truing screw driver blades and sharpening a chisel now and then. If I put too much pressure on the stone it will stop--but what the heck.
