Euro 2 classic Bullets and Electra-X bikes were still being sold by UK dealers up until the end of 2008, though none had been officially imported after 2007. The onlky EFI on dsiplay at the Watsonian-Squire open day in 2008 was a sectioned engine. Remaining bike stocks were sold under some sort of derogation, with any machines still unsold at the end of 2008 quickly registered by dealers and sold on as technically second hand early in 2009. The odd 2009 and even 2010 registered pre-RFI machine still comes up on ebay occasionally.

I'm not sold on the bobber cult either, though it might promote a healthy trade in replacement mudguards for people restoring them to original in a few years. But then (can I say this on the message board of a company that sells customising parts for RE Bullets?) not **everyone** likes cafe racers or pretend trials bikes either, or even my favourite custom, the street scrambler. If I were a fan of 70s BMW twins I'd be quite angry about what is being done some to them at the hipster end of the current cafe racer craze, though an old 1000cc BMW twin is as likely to be plundered for its engine and gearbox for classic sidecar racing.

To my mind. There's a big difference between personalising a bike (It's what we do. Unbolt one part and bolt on another) and hacking up frames and sawing up mudguards, etc. At least, the parts we change are still usable.

I would think most of the later iron barrels are still around as few will have been crashed and I hardly ever see high mileage ones so they are not worn out. I expect us owners like them enough to want to keep them and when you see a bunch of Enfield owners they don't strike me as the sort of people itching to trade in for the latest £10-15k fancy machine. Personally I want to see how many miles my 2007 will do, only on about 22,000 miles so far as I run a bigger bike but its a fun project.

That's partly because they were never CARB certified for sale in CA. The only way they could come in was with out-of-state owners moving in, or buying an out-of-state used bike with more than 7,000 miles. I think 2011 was the first year that they could sell new RE's in CA.

I'll probably go sightseeing in London just to take full advantage of the system - but it'll have to be at the weekend to avoid the congestion charge
