Hi Guys---- last Saturday 1st July, Joyce and I went on one of our regular "Steam Train specials"operated by these people out of Tysely, Birmingham..( http://www.vintagetrains.co.uk/ )..to York and then through to Scarborough....Booked loco was Ex-LMS No.46233 Duchess of Sutherland...which needless to say kept to the advertised timetable throughout, often arriving at an outer signal early and then held until local revenue traffic had cleared...Very frustrating for crew and passengers alike....Alighting at Platform 1 we see the longest, one-piece bench seat on a railway station in the world }----https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarborou ... ay_station ----- We made our way down the High Street which was packed with street traders etc and generally headed towards the Beach.........Just as we drew alongside a parked car with it's driver trying to get in, a Police 4 x 4 screeched to a halt blocking his exit....A Policeman in full combat got out, pointed a Heckler & Koch assault rifle at the man ( https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Heckl ... AKHXQwA6IQ_ ) and screamed}--"Get down---get down"....At that point another 4 x 4 pulled in behind, 2 more Police in full "Kit" and "tooled -
up emerged" and also shouted at him and US !!---------Joyce and I left in a hurry, got an ice cream, paddled in the water, had lunch, caught the train home !!

Not a bad day-out for £80 !!

Two 4x4's with police tooled up in kit with heckler and kosh's shouting at you?

That's an excuse to soil one's seat if ever I heard one.

This also helps explain why many WWII army bike dispatch rider seats were finished in brown leather.

I had a "character building" experience whilst waiting in my car to at Roscoff Ferryport to get on the ferry for Plymouth. Suddenly car surrounded by "fully tooled up" Gendarmes, Douaniers, and Army, complete with attack dogs.
Some myopic prat has reported me for "carrying a firearm," (Folding walking stick in a holster, on my belt.)
A tense minute or so, which fortunately ended in laughter from all except me.
