Special scaley post - Maroon tank badges for red/maroon RE's

(I am trying to post this on as many RE forums, Yahoo and Facebook groups as possible.)

Sometime ago, I wrote an article that appeared on this forum and also in The Gun magazine concerning the scarcely seen maroon tank badges produced in 1955-6 (click on the photo to see the post on here...)

If you have a red or Maroon RE of any age, these tank badges are just a natural for your pride and joy. Having had a word with Mark Mumford, I find that the more familiar gold badges are still made by the same company that knocked them out for RE. So I am asking how many people would be interested in a pair of Maroon tank badges with the aim of setting up a deal with the company for manufacture of them. Mark has suggested that due to the low volume of production, the gold ones are hand painted, so why not have them paint some in the original maroon colour?

What I really need is somebody (Mr. H, you still got that tank with Maroon badge?) to have one sampled so we can get the 'Pantone' numbers for the colour. If not, then maybe the company still have records of the original.

I am prepared to bear the initial cost of production, and charge the same as for normal badges. If there are additional set up costs, then I will wear them as I want a pair for Kevin. If Mr. H wants to take over this idea then please let me know and good luck!

Come on... Doesn't your bike deserve a pair of these?

Gold and (unfinished) Maroon versions (the lettering should also be red).

even the unfinished pair of badges are stunning. Now I want them complete with the red lettering.

Please add a post if you are interested in a pair of these (or any number of them) Please post if you think this is a good idea but don't actually need any.

Well, in 1956 the smaller bikes (Ensign, Clipper) still had different colours and old metal tank badge, but the rest (350 & 500 bullet, 500 Twin and the Super Meteor were all Maroon only with the new badge. By 1957, the colours changed and the maroon badge was dropped.

The catalogue is very interesting!

I've got a good original old pair of these maroon badges on my '57 500 Bullet, bought them from Pete Lovett years back (anyone know if he is still around?). To my knowledge, all the '56 and '57 bikes had them, as the standard colour at that time was maroon. Don't need a pair for my bike, but I've never heard of any being reproduced in the 41 years that I've had my bike. Pictures of them: http://vinvetmotorcycle.simplesite.com/432421668 A large batch would definitely not be a good investment, but I'm sure there would be a niche market for them.
