Norm i reckon the floating bush is adequate for most normal use and given a good supply of fresh oil will last for many thousands of miles..
BW has hit the nail when he mentioned the pump spindle and worm.. This i'm sure is the achilles heel of the old classic motor..
I don't need to tell you that with the failure of the spindle, the big end goes west in short order…
Why does the spindle/worm fail?? Poor Metallurgy maybe, Gunning the engine from cold without letting the oil warm, that will put great strain on the pumps… Some people will fook about with carb and timing until they get massive kickbacks on starting…
Probably the best way to strip a spindle or indeed reconfigure a sprag clutch…
