hi all ,was up at 4am this morning ,couldn,t sleep so went in garage ,removed engine & gearbox from electra, stripped engine down to have a look for the knock ,couldn,t get any play on big end although it was banging like a blacksmith ,anyway i,ve measured up for the 1000cc motor and it will not fit without major frame mods and streatching,so i may have to go down another route,am in a quandry as to what to do, it looks like another yanmar clone but do i go for the 465cc or the 406 cc i know that all 406 parts are readilly available,so its poss a 5 speed 406 with electric leg.another great winter bike, happy days paul.

Paul, just a thought, the Electra has a nut which holds the engine sprocket on and if this was not tight it gives the same knocking sound of a big end. This is the nut behind the rotor. Otherwise when you split the crank you will find the hardening gone from the crank pin half way around the pin and this is why you can't feel it

hi norm ,i managed to split the crankcases this morning was up at 4am again !!!insomnia, the big end is very ropey but without lift but its a nono,i will advertise the motor etc on the royal enfield owners site, apart from the crank all the rest is good, apparently these are rareish so someone should get a bargain, just found out that the rear wheel needs some bearings it like the crank is ropey!!!will fit some quality european bearings,i must say i was surprised to see that they weld the boss on the left for the traditional brake set up,atb paul.

hi stu,the big ends gone up the spout,i,m thinking of getting mr ,h ,s big end & rod conversion,as i think if i put a 406 /465 diesel in it won,t be much different to the diesel i already have ,i,ve fitted new rear wheel bearings today as they were tired, also the brake cam was siezed up,i,ve just got the front wheel out and am servicing the brake caliper, have the steering bearings to grease and the forks to service and then the running gears done ,has anyone any recomendations for sealing the crank cases i usually use gen purpose sealant .thats all for now laters dudes!
