Hi everyone,
500 Indian Classic - 2001 model.
I have spark, fuel, compresion and air. All seem to be there or happening at the right time and place. Valve timing is good.
So why won't my bike start?(!)
If anyone can suggest an area I've missed I'd be grateful.
Thick Alan
PS. I recently had the carb' off to replace the main jet.

Have you tried a new Plug I have had several that spark when testing outside the cylinder head but once fitted don't seem to spark properly. Also is the Petrol fresh and uncontaminated.

Thanks Paul. I just bought a fresh gallon of juice and will try a brand new plug. It's hot in London today and I am feeling the pain kicking the bike over and over again...
I trust this will getting it going

Rado,
Why did you replace the main jet? Was it runnimng before you replaced it? How long is it since it was running? Have you got spark? What makes you state the valve timing is good? Did you touch the valve timing and if so why? Questions that need answers

Hello Norm,
Main was a 200 so I changed it to a 180 to suit the exhaust and filter I fitted.
I did not not adjust valve timing but just checked it was fine.
It ran very badly with black smoke but had not been ridden on the road since June 2007 (when I sold it - now I own it again). When I sold it it was fine as it was standard with long silencer and Mikcarb. The guy I sold it to fitted a Mk 1 Concentric, S&B filter and a very open exhaust but of course he never actually road it. He just polished it...
Sparks are fine. However after fitting a new plug, draining the fuel tank and adding fresh juice it starts first time. Yippee! Now it's a case of setting a nice tick over and getting it MOT'd.
Thanks for everyones help on here.

Mine ran like that when i fitted a 107 needle jet, check if it's got the 106 in it and then put clip in top grove.Only other thing i can think is float level is to high,so check if it smooths out by turning the fuel petcock off.
