Timing? Might be well off after a rebuild?

Could simply be a duff spark plug - worth trying a new one.

Sounds like timing, not that easy to check, but worth checking condenser. look for any sparking at the points , burnt points etc. My Bullet kicked back with a vengeance , and misfired , backfired etc, while underway. Only 3000 Km on the clock, 2005 model, but a new condenser fixed the problem.

Are you certain the inlet side valve clearance isn't set too tightly?

I'd go for ignition timing as a first option too.
Other things to check are fuel flow through the tap and tweaking the pilot screw on the carb slightly (I spent about 5 minutes kicking over my 612 when I first built it with only occasional backfires, richened the pilot screw half a turn and it fired on the next kick).

Start with the simple things- plug- before getting into complexity.
I don't think than anything other than barrel & head off has taken place. neother would affect ignition although incorrect valve clearance maybe be possible. Easily checked.
Wonder if it is points & coil or electronic ignition?

Nooooooo H.
If you fit the electronic ignition and it STILL doesn't go you are even further into the mystery.
Fit EI if you like but after you get it going. Apart from anything else those EI systems can be tricky to time correctly and as that could be the problem........
