Thanks! Thanks a bunch!!

You selfish buggers for keeping this to yourselves ;)

Purely a tip for new owners as I never saw this mentioned in two books and good ol’ YouTube.

So there I was, oil drained, next, the filter.... so, nut off, cover was snug so as per past jobs on other bikes, give it a tap on the side with a rubber mallet......

No one told me of the intercontinental Ballistic spring in there!!! :x

One metre (yard, take your pick) of oil up the path

I knew there was a spring, but I didn’t know it was Zebedee!

Yeah I’d laugh too if I wasn’t me.

Time for bed everyone.

I suppose I have been lucky, as I usually was in front of it when I took it off.

Thank-you, I have just bought a bullet and was going to change the oil today, but Halfords didn't have the correct type, I was going to do it in my sister's garage as well, she would have appreciated the mess I am sure. Now I will be forewarned.

The trick is not to unscrew the nut all the way before freeing the cap off.

You won't find one in Halfords, for any of the R.E. bikes

Halfords do stock 20w-50 but it's expensive.

Apoligies, I meant the oil filter - not the oil.

No-one tell you, you need a magnet to get the old filter out.
