2006 Bullet 350. Just put on a new set of stainless steel centre stand springs. Now the stand dangles lower than it should (at least an inch and a half low at the foot end) and bounces around. The new springs are the same length as the old ones -- I checked before I put them on -- and installed the same way. But it's clear there's little or no spring tension on the stand when it gets beyond about halfway up.

Is there a problem with the spring properties of stainless steel? Could I have stretched them beyond their elastic limit while installing them? It seems unlikely but I can't think of another explanation.

I understand stainless steel is not the best material for springs but unless you stretched them beyond the yield point there should not be a problem. Usually you can only just get stand springs on at all so it's unlikely you stretched them. Are they from Mr H? If so I'd be talking to him.

Ed - not that familiar with the mounting arrangement, is it possible that the mounting points have bent?

No Andy, the mounts couldn't bend really. Certainly not enough to cause a problem.
