Do Hitchcocks provide anything to stop your shoe melting against the exhaust by the rear brake pedal?
Or do I just splay my foot?

Has anyone tried exhaust tape? Hitchcocks do a 50 foot length.

I have a friend who specialises in fabricating stainless exhausts for classic vehicles and is very well known in the VSCC and elsewhere as "the" man to go to for a first class job. To put his credentials in perspective he also made the exhaust outlets for Rolls Royce for the Griffon engine on their Spitfire.
He guarantees his exhausts for life with one condition: the pipes are not wrapped. He told me off for doing so on the down pipes of a trials car I own, even though he hadn't made them. He told me that excessive heat can be "held in" to a down pipe which can cause the metal to become brittle.
However, in your case it might be worth considering, at least for the part your sole contacts - the cost of shoes adds up!

You could wrap a piece of silicone mat/trivet/hose round the part in question and fix it in place with either a couple of jubilee clips or a twist of stainless steel lockwire for that "race" look.
Short lengths of silicone hose in various diameters and colours are readily available online for fitting to car intercoolers.

This'll sort it. I had some exhaust wrap and I actually like the look.
Just hope those stainless steel cable ties will keep it in place. I've got some stainless steel hose clamps as a standby.

You could make it more secure by winding some stainless steel locking wire around the tape.
Btw, I always soak my tape in soapy water before wrapping it, which makes it more pliable.
