Hi all. I have an 86 Indian RE Superstar 350, although it is a bit of a bitsa. Having solved quite a few issues, faster a short run, power drops and a strange tinkling noise comes from the top of the engine and running starts to become a little erratic. I have heard rumours of valve seats working loose. I’ve this likely or is it something else entirely? Help, I am loosing patience as I am no mechanic!

It is not unheard of. Mine did it and I've spoken to others who have has a similar issue. I got a lot of popping and banging on the overrun too when mine did it.

basic hings first, have tappets been adjusted? when was it last serviced with a new plug? I is it misfiring when it does it or just hunting a bit? has it ever had its head of for a decoke (build up can cause predetonation also know as pinking which will be a metallic ticking sound outside of the normal enfield clatter)

Rocker covers off and found the culprit, a loose engine bolt! So Loctite bought, but I can’t find my blinkin’ torque wrench!!! Grrrr

That's a result, well done! Whereabouts are you? Maybe someone on here is nearby and can lend you a torque wrench.
