Having decided to put my head in the noose I have purchased an Electra X complete with several boxes of spares and receipts totalling over a monkey spent largely at Hitchcocks. I wondered about people's views on using Easy Start to breath life back into said motorcycle. Yah or nah? or perhaps haanji / nay?

Ok for the first start I'd say. Mind you, a few drops of fuel down the plughole has a similar effect in my experience.
Now the oppinion bit. Why should you need it? If it has a charged battery, clean sparkplug and fresh fuel, why wouldn't it just start in the normal fashion?

It may be intermittent electrical caused by being strapped in a van for a couple of hours. The green neutral light comes on only when handlebars moved. I have had a spark. It tried to start but failed. The previous owner has also fitted handlebar heater, but these are turned off. I'm getting power to lights etc but thats it. I am also in trouble for buying another bike on mothers day!

Simple thing, pull the tank off and see if the coil is getting power to it, move the handelbars back and forth to see if it looses power at times.

Another thing to check is has the sidestand switch been disconnected, put it on the centerstand and put the sidestand up and see if the spark works in both situations, sidestand up and down

Thanks Norm, The coil was next on my list, luckily it came with a spare coil. I became aware of the side stand switch yesterday. The previous owner had been trying to start it on the side stand. I did get onto the ground and searched but my old eyes couldn't see anything obvious. I did wonder about a loose wire in the headlamp but am a bit worried top open up. The wiring on this bikes looks like they have tried to cram as many wires as possible into small spaces with dag connectors. All this aside It feels like a proper bike to sit on so I am still quite pleased.

Cov Lad, sounds like the side stand switch its still there, it is on the inside of the stand up under the frame, from memory held on by 2 allen head screws. Can't remember how it works but I remember I just turned it over and put the 2 screws back in. Main thing is to make sure there is power at the coil with the ignition turned on. Then go from there

Thanks Norm, one thing I've been meaning to ask for ages, do these new old Enfield use metric or Af spanners?
