Hi, I have finally bitten the bullet and bought a 2016 EFI 500 with only 650 miles on the clock. However I hadd left it for a month after buying it in the conservatory ( wife wants it out) Now it won’t start. Turns over fine but no spark at plug or at HT lead when plug removed. Surely it can’t have developed a coil problem in its very short life. Any suggestions?..?
Thanks

Hi again. Have sorted it out, faulty or somewhat sensitive side stand cut out switch. Does anyone know if I can totally disable this switch to save future problems.

Just to say 'hello' - so you don't feel ignored. The question you asked has an almost limitless number of possible answers that I guess it overwhelmed us!

It can easily be disabled but I'm not sure if it is an MOT requirement

Definitely not an MOT requirement.

I think you can simply join the ends of the wiring, inboard of the switch, to bypass it.

You simply unplug the connector which is about six inches from the side stand switch. That's it. Do not short or bridge the connector as that will stop the engine from starting.

So the switch "breaks" rather than "makes" the circuit with the side stand retracted?

The switch itself is actually adjustable. I set mine so it operates halfway through its travel arc so it can’t accidentally interfere with the ignition when travelling down a typically potholed UK road surface.

Thanks guys, the information you have provided is most useful. I think I’ll totally disable the switch as it should prevent any sudden cut out on the go. Great site!!

Wheaters, the switch makes it does not break a connection. I have mine disconnected, bike runs fine.
