That's two basket cases back on the road in two years. The first was standard. This is, well, not standard. Hitchcocks 612 kit fitted. Started as a bare frame and crankcases. Flew through its MOT today.

TOday, just home from the MOT.











Not sure how it rides yet, and frankly, I'm not going to until the salt is gone off the road. It's been fired up and run up to temperature then had the head re-torqued.



I hate to think how much I've spent of this project. At least as much as a new interceptor woudl cost... However, building a motorcycle from scratch is a real bucket list thing for me.

Stinkwheel. Looks good, if you have done a good job with the 6122 you will enjoy it, they go very well. Have you raised the gearing by the way?

Aye, larger gearbox sprocket. I did some maths and I've tried to gear it for doing 110 flat out in top... Although I made a lot of assumptions (including where peak power would be) and I may well have gone far too high but it's easier to shorten a chain than to lengthen one, I think I went for 21 teeth. Close ratio gearbox too. And a brembo radial master cylinder which took the MOT tester aback, it inadvertantly stopped the roller three times as he was trying to check for pulsing. It's going to get brembo brake pads in too, dosen't mention it on the cross reference charts but one of the models of KLR650 has the same pads as pricol callipers.

What an improvement! You could have done just about ANYTHING to that mess and made it look better, as it is you now have something much far tidier that also ought to shift in fine style, as well as do stoppies. Hope your choice of front tyre is up to it.



I don't know what it is about replacing the casquette with Thunderbird type yokes and a separate headlamp, but some of the efforts I have seen suggest the owners don't seem to grasp the fact that it really needs a set decent headlamp brackets and a tidy speedo mount to look good and avoid... well, see the before picture.



Losing the sidecar forks for solo use was a good move, and I certainly get the rationale for the disk brake. Might that front alloy mudguard be a bit on the long side for using without for-and-aft mudguard stays, perhaps? Not an option with the Electra forks, I know.

I was going to see what the mudguard does. It seems pretty solid as-is but if necessary, I could fit a mudguard brace to it running lengthways and attached to the fork brace/bracket like they use on plastic moto-x mudguards.

There always our hosts' centre stay part no. 92751A which moves the mountings out from the centre quite a way. It's meant for 21" guards but you might be able to adapt it to fit your 19" guard and keep it concentric with the tyre.
