Hi, there seems to be differences in the graduations on the various makes of ammeters fitted to bullets. So on the same charge of say 5 anps one will be off theclock while another will be halfway over. One fitted to my army bullet has no graduation just lines. Vince

If it has just started doing this, the battery might be on its last legs. If you don`t know what you`re doing, take the battery to an auto-electrician or local mechanic, they usually do this test for nothing. If the battery is OK, there must be a short circuit somewhere in the wiring, again an auto-electrician will find the problem in a few minutes. Get it fixed, short circuits are the cause of most vehicle fires you see on the news, and if it`s parked underneath the house, it`s good night to the house as well.

Get a voltmeter on the battery and see the value when the engine is running. Ideally this should be 14 volts or so. Much more than this and you have a problem.

That's exactly what my old Meteor Minor did just before the bike died with a hot, bulging battery. It was the (modern) reg-rec.
