Hi all am new to the message board and I hope I can get some help.
I have a 1966 continental gt I'm getting older now and I am finding it very difficult to kick start.
The kick start lever has always seemed too short to crank the engine over enough.
I was wondering if there is a longer lever available possibly from another R.E 250cc model and if so do you think it would help in cranking the engine over easier.

Thanks for any advice

I can't answer your question, but if you look for any kind of kickstart on this site in accessories and click on one, a box comes up with "will it fit my bike" a longer one will give you more leverage but may foul footrest/exhaust etc.

.... and if no luck there, you could always ring Hitchcocks. They're extremely helpful whenever possible.

Good luck,Chris

I don't think there is a longer standard lever available but as Chris says, you could give Hitchcocks a call and ask their advice on this, there may be an accessory item that would help. One thing to note, difficulty kicking over is usually related to compression. The GT is quite high by British bike standards at (figures vary) 8.5 or even 9 to 1. A change to a lower compression piston probably won't alter performance much and would achieve the same result.
