Anybody know if the ign timing can be adjusted on efi models or is it the same system as on the avl electras, getting bad pinking at 85kph on uphill runs using 98 octane fuel.

I am not familiar with this model; however, I think that the timing I set and not adjustable, well maybe with great difficulty. If it has just started to ping, I would be looking for an air leak somewhere that is weakening the mixture and not be looking at the timing. More knowledgeable replies must surely appear soon.

I think I have found the cause of the multiple post syndrome. Click to send and nothing happens, so click again until it moves. Solution: Only click once and be patient, do NOT click anymore.

Hi Scotty, the ignition timing on the EFI engines is preset on the ECU and does not allow for adjustment as standard. A Power Commander has the facility to adjust the ignition timing and will allow you to retard the timing in the troublesome rev range and throttle load, but of course this adds a fairly substantial cost.

I would say, it would be unusual to experience this sort of issue on an EFI engine which is functioning as it should. Perhaps there is something else causing the engine to run badly or even the noise transmitting from another area giving a similar noise to pinking?

Try increasing the idle speed!

I guess you've checked the spark plug in case it is fouled. Also, does the 98 fuel have ethanol component? Ethanol increases the octane but causes problems with elastomers. In one case I am familiar with some fuel with ethanol was used and seals in the tank were affected, partially blocking the fuel injection, causing fuel starvation with resultant power loss and some pinking.
