I have just ordered one of our Hosts 535 pistons to fit in my crossbred motor and after thinking about it I remembered pulling a motor down a few years ago because the high comp piston was hitting the head. This was a 500 piston not a 535. Anybody else had this problem and should they be fitted with a decomp plate or just a thick base gasket?

Hi Norm,

I have fitted several forged high compression pistons [500 size] to a few engines, also the American 9:1 type and never had a piston hit the head, even after shortening some of the cylinder barrels by a couple of mm. Perhaps the engine you remember had a [very] shortened barrel?

 Just a thought.

 Paul.

 THanks Paul.

The motor in question was a 2006 Bullet which I then pulled down, fitted a roller and a JP piston and had no problems with the piston again. I didn't fit the high comp piston which hit the head. Anyway thanks again for your thoughts and experience
