I have an '89 350 Bullet fitted with a Minda twist grip unit. I suspect the kill switch is causing problems. How does it work? When switched to "stop" does it open a circuit or earth the points?

I'm fairly confident it breaks a circuit; at least that was the case with my '06 Bullet. I went the simplified 50's controls route and did away with the Minda switches. Simply shorting the two wires together allowed me to circumvent the switch altogether.

It can't earth the points - my 350 has the standard Minda controls with a "kill" switch and it doesn't have points or a distributor; it's got the later ignition run off the left end of the crank.

I'm not certain about 1989 Bullets, but most motorcycle kill switches earth the points or coil rather than switch on and off. My Bullet with Eureka electronic ignition definitely does, but it has non-standard wiring.

The Minda kill switch (and throttle housing) from the '99 on kick start models is an actual switch between the two wires.
