Good afternoon,
I have a 1938 model B 250 and I'm looking for help identifying the gearbox and obtaining an operation manual.
Below is a picture of the bike and close up of the gearbox.
I think the gearbox is an Albion. Can anyone identify the model number?
Thanks
Steve

Hi, albion lghtweight box, looks the same as fitted to my wd model c 350 sidevalve. All these boxes work on much the same principle so a manual for the above should cover it. Mostly the difference is in size of gears and gearchange mechanism positioning/clutch lever. If you can obtain a parts book you will be able to cross reference with other models. I would be surprised if not the same as pre unit 250 clipper. Vince

Good evening Vince,
Thanks for taking the time to reply. I cannot find an illustrated assembly guide. All of the parts books on this site are for later models.
Can anyone point me towards a reputable service center who might be able to rebuild an old Albion?
Thanks in advance Steve

In my experience they really only go together one way. If you want to pull it apart I would suggest lots of photos as you diassemble.

Good morning Vince, I am near Manchester airport. I'm not sure what the box needs. At the moment the bike is with a mechanic and he is struggling to get the box working properly. I was hoping to find a service manual to help him along.
But as Simon suggests I am now considering getting the bike back and getting stuck into the box myself.
Thanks Steve

Hi, if the problem is gear selection, it my just need adjustment. If parts worn then its not a difficult box to work on. Get it back and we can talk it through. There is a guy in Harpenden who rebuilds enfield boxes. Vince.

Hi Vince,
Thanks for the offer of help. I'll get back to you in a couple of weeks when I get the bike back.
Steve.

Lovely Bike there, Gear Selection could be down to a clutch adjustment issue, if the model B is anything as pernickerty as my 2000 350 bullet then it could be! ive found on my bullet that the gears wont select if the gearbox is stationary ( im used to jap bikes ) so I incorrectly belived that there was a both a clutch ( mines turned out to be mullered) and gearbox issue that occured at the same time, I only found out that once the back wheel was off the ground and with the engine running, that i could select all 4 gears again but was unable to get the clutch to work correctly regardless of adjustment so it may pay to review your clutch adjustment

What a great bike. Is the black, rear pointing lever where the gear indicator would go a neutral finder of some sort? I guess to use by moving your boot and lifting? Kind REgards Dave
