Accralite 8.5 piston thickness

Hi guys. I have taken the trouble to cut through my Accralite 8.5:1 535cc piston (at a right angle to the gudgeon pin) to see how thick it was.

The piston was ruined when the inlet valve attacked it and I am replacing it with another of the same, after resleeving the alloy barrel back to std spec. But I thought I’d see exactly how much aluminium there is in it. The image shows it to be quite thick – it can be read off from the adjacent millimetre scale.

Why, you may ask, do I want to know how thick the aluminium is?

Well since I am fitting the scrambles NOS valve from our hosts, which is a little larger than the indian OEM valve, I want to know how much could be ground off the inlet valve pocket should the valve clash with the head. I already have the larger exhaust valve and that misses the piston by a measured ~50thou (playdough in valve pocket). Maybe someone else will be interested in seeing the thickness.

Cheers, ChrisD

Leon the pistons you keep posting on green background are my oem ones that destroyed themselfs because some indian fitted a 350 engine main jet, bike was a local production model donefor economy no doubt, do 90kph and bang, acralites need careful running in I have found but once bedded in no probs.

scotty: Point taken, I only post them because they might be of interest to posters who have not seen them before. I shall not do it again.
