Amal carb

I have an Amal carburettor in a box of spare parts that came with my b350 when I bought it.I was told by an ex Enfield owner to forget it cause it will give nothing but problems.I currently have a micarrb fitted and is working well enough.Is it the case the Amal is best left off the bike?.

...especially if it's a non-Premier Mk1 Concentric. A well set-up Monobloc might be a different story, which carb is it? A.

Exile it's been my mantra for years but it's handy to know if it's worth changing for future reference.

Its 626/R300 concentric in very good condition.I suspect the previous owner tried it but changed back to the micarb.

As above. If you have a standard motor, stick with the standard mikcarb. I fitted a big amal to my 350 because I'd got a tuned head. While it is a bit more poky flat out, it idles poorly and starts poorly. It has also become progressively worse because it was supplied with a standard slide so now the throttle body tube is severely worn and scored too.



When I find time, I have a mikcarb from a 500 I'm going to try on it.



One thing that I found did noticeably improve the carburettion on my 350 was when I fitted one of our hosts mikcarb service kits which effectively replaces all the brasswork with japanese stuff. Started and idled more smoothly, smoother off the throttle. Out of stock for now though.
